Airborne ATM Connects Metropolitan Area Networks

November 1998 - Collaboration with a specialist network provider serving media applications in London's West End resulted in a trial which proved the ability of CableFree wireless communication systems to provide both high-speed backbone and access links to customers using ATM protocols initially at 155Mbps.
The trial involved multiple CableFree links using a 'hub' architecture where customer access is dictated solely by line-of-sight visibility from rooftops to a strategically-placed hub site of some 16 floors height. Statistical studies of London's distinctive skyline indicated that 97% of all busineses with rooftop access would be accesible from such a local site within a 1km radius.
The potential for entire Metropolitan Area Networks employing CableFree wireless technology at up to 622Mbs has proved the high-performance, cost-effective and rapid-response capability of the systems combined with high integrity of data transfer achieved.
